I just dropped W off for his first afternoon of preschool.  And I’m feeling a monumental shift in process.  Another feather in his wings.  On the way to drop him off I was telling him that Mrs. Brown was going to help him learn to write his name (no interest on his part).  He countered by saying that he was going to tell her he wanted to be a farmer when he grew up so she could teach him about farming.   And there you have Exhibit B of his one track mind…

And I’m off topic already.  So back to perspective.

A Little Perspective

It’s funny how whatever you are going through absolutely colors your vision.  Such an obvious statement – but sometimes it is difficult to be objective in the midst of (for the lack of a better word) life.

I just finished reading Julia Alverez’s In the Name of Solome.   The novel takes place over 2 generations and 3 continents – central to the context was the civil war in the Dominican Republic and the Cuban revolution.  It was an interesting study in complex family relationships.  Her main character describes herself as ‘a bead unstrung from the necklace of generations’.  A poetic image, no doubt.  So how do you take a child ‘unstrung’ from one necklace and encourage him to ‘restring’ himself onto another?

Hmmm…  Just editing after the post to say it sounds like I’m trying to be in control, again.
